
CSME National Design Competition
The 2016 CSME National Design Competition challenges students from universities and technical colleges from across Canada to design and build a 3D printer. This competition is intended to provide mechanical and multi-disciplinary engineering undergraduate university and technical college students in Canada an opportunity to engineer, build and assemble their designs from basic components readily available in the market with a fixed budget.
Eight semi-final design projects will be selected and invited to 2016 Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineering International Congress to present their designs and have a chance to win one of the grand prizes.
The second edition of the CSME National Design Competition is open to all engineering undergraduate or technical college students in Canada. All students must be enrolled as undergraduate engineering degree or diploma programs in Canada at any time during the present academic year. All competitors agree to abide by the Engineering Code of Ethics.
Teams will submit a package consisting of: a technical report that highlights the technical and engineering aspects, a business report that highlights the financial and marketing aspects, a 3D printed prototype part and a promotional video clip.

Formula SAE
Formula SAE® is a student design competition organized by SAE International (formerly Society of Automotive Engineers). The first competition was started back in 1979 after Mark Marshek, then at University of Houston (Texas) contacted the SAE Educational Relations Department in 1978 to discuss adding a variant event of the Mini Baja; the name Mini Indy was founded. As many organizers have found, the work in building a car can be exceeded only by that to organize the event; 1980 failed to produce an organizer. Having seen the potential of the event, Mike Best, Robert Edwards and John Tellkamp, students at the University of Texas at Austin, approached Dr. Ron Matthews with an idea – how about another Mini-Indy, but with some changes? Make the rules more open; let it be as unlimited as possible. It was desired that this new competition would take the cars to the next level of engineering. The Baja competition was great for chassis design, but many students wanted to work on engines as well. The new rules would keep engine restrictions to a bare minimum. Any four-stroke engine was allowed for the first four years with power limited by a 25.4 mm intake restriction.

Supermileage SAE
The Supermileage competition provides engineering and technology students with a challenging design project that involves the development and construction of a single-person, fuel-efficient vehicle. Vehicles are powered by a small four-cycle engine. The vehicles will run a specified course with the vehicle obtaining the highest combined kilometers per liter (miles per gallon) rating plus design segment points winning the event. Students have the opportunity to set a world fuel economy record and increase public awareness of fuel economy. Engines are donated by Briggs & Stratton.

Baja SAE
Baja SAE® consists of competitions that simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. Engineering students are tasked to design and build an off-road vehicle that will survive the severe punishment of rough terrain.The object of the competition is to provide SAE student members with a challenging project that involves the design, planning and manufacturing tasks found when introducing a new product to the consumer industrial market. Teams compete against one another to have their design accepted for manufacture by a fictitious firm. Students must function as a team to not only design, build, test, promote, and race a vehicle within the limits of the rules, but also to generate financial support for their project and manage their educational priorities.

Great Northern Toboggan Race
Pioneered in 1972 by Dr. S. H. Simmonds, the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race is an annual gathering of engineers from universities and technical schools across Canada, the United States, and the world. Teams from each school are tasked with designing, building, and racing a toboggan.
GNCTR is open to teams from any engineering-accredited school in the world. This does not apply to non-competing teams (alumni, business, etc.). In order to qualify for competition, the design of the toboggan must pass an initial safety review. Prior to racing the toboggan must also undergo and pass a visual safety inspection.
